So today, Kyah did her dancing with Nika. She is coming along really well. I got to see some photos of her performing. Photos taken while someone is dancing really shows up flaws in technique; Kyah is definitely improving, which is great. She is spending a lot of time and effort with her dancing and I would expect nothing less.
A good ballet dancer needs to be flexible. Fortunately for Kyah, at my workplace, I have access to a lower body flexibility machine. It is so easy to sit in this machine and stretch adductors (inner thighs), hamstrings (back of the leg), lower back and mid back. Kyah sits with the machine as wide open as it can go and she looks comfortable! I know I wouldn’t be able to sit in this position, let alone look comfortable! There is so much work that goes on behind the scenes when you see a dancer perform. It is amazing – the hours of practice, the hard work, the strength work, the stability work, the technique honing, the flexibility, the aching body, the tired body, the mental work, just so much, and lots more too! Let’s hope it all pays off in the long run for each and every one of them.
Friday is looming – D-day with the physio to give the all clear to try pointe shoes again. Saturday is also looming – the fitting of pointe shoes. This is what we have been waiting for since Kyah’s accident – will she be able to wear pointe shoes? Will she be able to dance in pointe shoes? And, will she look like a real ballerina while doing it????
