Today Kyah was finally fitted for new pointe shoes. A concern we have had since September 26, 2016 – will she ever be able to go up on pointe again? Well, today she went up en pointe. She did not dance, but she went through the fitting process of pointe shoes. Her foot even got tired with the fitting process! Probably to be expected – she has not been in this position with load on her foot for so long….138 days!
We had to go to a different shop to the one we usually go to for pointe shoes, because it has been recommended Kyah get orthotics for when she is en pointe now. So today we spent over 2 hours looking at pointe shoes and Kyah getting fitted with orthotics that are specific for when dancers are en pointe.
Although her left foot does not seem to have the range that her right foot does, Kyah was still able to try the shoes on and decide which type of shoe suited her foot the best. Once we had decided on the brand and size of shoe, then it was time for the orthotic fitting.
It was quite fascinating watching the process of having the orthotics made. I really think they will help with longevity of the foot, so the time and money are definitely worth it.
Photos of the orthotics will be posted tomorrow. But for now, Kyah has a new pair of pointe shoes and she needs to break them in and start preparing to dance in them.
A major hurdle has been jumped today. Kyah is able to wear pointe shoes, currently her left foot is not as good as her right foot – but we are believing that in a short period of time her left will be as good as, or better than her right.
